This first year long project is something close to all our hearts, building an army on the cheap. So, make a list, set yourself a budget and each month try and collect and paint your figures for the army. In December we will have a look and see who got the most impressive force for the minimum spend!

The minimum spend will take the form of a little calculation (as we are aware that some people may get more figures / bases in their army than others). So, at 25/28mm and above, you divide the spend by the number of figues and below 25/28mm you divide the spend by the number of bases. This we will end up with a cost per figure or base .. it works on paper at least!

No prize apart from getting a nice shiny new army for 2017 .. what more can you ask for?

Guidelines: we have some categories to adhere to, these are along the various scales, so 28mm and above, 20mm (1:72) , 15mm/18mm , 10mm and 6mm .. ok you can do less than 6mm but you'll probably win your category! Micro Armour, Aircraft, ships and space craft we will lump in to one category .. as they all cost roughly the same per miniature or unit. Sound fair?

So. get on ebay or facebook swap pages and go grab some bargains and get started on your path to the cheapest army of 2016!

Good luck!

An Aussie trapped in New Zealand. More of a painter than a gamer, I am interested in many different periods and genres. Fit in my hobby between work and full time study

Ex Army. I have a degree in Archaeology and a Life long interest in Military History. Have spent the last couple of summers working on an archaeological project at Hougoumont Farm, Waterloo.

penniless ole geezer looking for the perfect wargaming "ruleset", preferably 36-24-34 measurements if possible :)

Been Wargaming / Modelling / Painting for the about 25 years and enjoy lots of different periods / fantasy settings, variety is the spice of life.

Historical wargamer returning to the fold.

Have been wargaming since around 2005, had a big break because of a lack of historicals in my area. Currently there is a historical scene building up, so I am also painting again.

I have been modeling for 25 years and painting miniatures and wargaming for 3 years.

Just started looking at minis earlier this year. Have been inspired by the many channels on you tube, think I am now subscribed to over 60 of them. Started with 28mm Napoleonics.

Planning on building a series of 28mm Napoleonic dioramas.

Painting anything I can!

As a young boy many a battle was fought on my bedroom carpet by legions of Airfix and Matchbox 1:72 and 1:32 scale toy soldiers. Many years later and this big kid continues to collect and paint.

Wargamer extraordinaire

Getting through the lead mountain 1 figure at a time!

Wargamer and model maker but happiest when painting little men

I'm not a gamer of sort, I'm more of a terrain maker, figure painter and miniature hoarder. I seldom get the chance to play any games and when the chance does occur it may be once or twice a year......
